Consultation

Statutory Consultation Outcome

UTC Central Bedfordshire statutory consultation on changing its age range and admission numbers from September 2015 has now closed, and we have considered in detail the responses received.

We are mindful of the concerns raised by one local authority and local schools, and based on this have decided to maintain the age range at 14-19, with an intake in Year 10 and Year 12 (Sixth Form).

By keeping to this age range, the UTC will be able to work more closely with local feeder schools and complement their provision by providing a range of opportunities for students of all ages to access our specialist engineering and design curriculum so that they can make a more informed decision about joining the UTC, either in Year 10 or Year 12.  We look forward to working with local schools to put this provision in place.

Luton Borough already has a two tier school system and in light of the fact that Central Bedfordshire has now put in a two tier school system in Dunstable and Houghton Regis (the key catchment are for UTC Central Bedfordshire), this will mean students will no longer have to move after just one year (as they would have done in a three tier schooling system).

UTC Central Bedfordshire will continue to have an intake of 150 students into Year 10 each year, and will reduce it admission numbers for external students into Year 12 to accommodate Year 11 students progressing internally.  The Sixth Form (Year 12 and Year 13) will be maintained at 300 students (150 in each year group).
